For gates on architecturally significant properties in Los Angeles, Burkhardt Custom is a licensed, bonded, and insured fence contractor that specializes in custom fabrications and solutions for architects, designers, and homeowners.

Burkhardt Custom specializes in the following types of gates:
Your front gate is where you greet the world, and the world greets you.
It needs to be functional, secure, and beautiful.
Burhardt Custom fabricates and installs gates for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
Pedestrian gates provide a number of different roles, from security to privacy and aesthetics.
We fabricate all of our pedestrian gates using steel frames to ensure over time they do not sag.
When it comes to the design of your gate, we can clad it with the same type of wood your fence uses to ensure a seamless integration.
We can also design and fabricate it using architectural steel, wrought iron, or chain link.
As far as the hardware, many options are available to consider:
Swinging driveway gates are the operator of choice for locations where there is no room for a sliding gate.
Often times these gates might need to open inward and at an incline; we custom fabricate the gates and hinges to accomodate for this.
For manual operation, hardware similar to pedestrian gates can be used to secure the gate when not in use yet provide an easy way to open the gate when needed.
There are also different types of electric gate operators (a.k.a. motors) for swinging gate systems to accommodate limited space.
Standard operator systems tend to use an arm connected to a circular drive wheel, while others are mounted directly to the frame of the gate.
As with our pedestrian gates, your custom swinging driveway gate frame will be fabricated using steel to ensure the strongest and most durable build.
It can also be clad using the same type of wood to match your fence, or designed and made using wrought iron, architectural, or ornamental steel.
Double-swing driveway gates are often used in limited-length driveways where a single-swing would not allow a car to be parked while still able to fully open.
They are also commonly installed where the cars are parked in front of the gate and one side is more commonly used as a pedestrian gate yet allowing for a fully-functional driveway gate when desired.
The manual gate hardware on these gates can also be similar to the single-swing and pedestrian gates, especially if one side is always secured with a cane bolt.
In situations where both sides must remain free to swing but manual hardware is required, a hook style latch must be used instead.
For electronic operation, dual circular drive operators can be installed; options for post-mounted operators are also available where space in limited.
Another common gate style is a sliding gate.
While sliding driveway gates are the most common use, sometimes a sliding pedestrian gate is called for or requried.
In either case, a track must be laid down and enough room for the gate to retract is required.
Similar to manual double-swing gates, hook latch locks must be used for manual hardware to secure the gate.
If electronic operators are installed, those serve as the lock to prevent unwanted entry.
Telescopic sliding gate systems are a fascinating and unique option for limited spaces when swinging gates aren't an option yet enough room to fully retract does not exist either.
Burkhardt Custom is the exclusive installer of the Fratelli Comunello telescopic gate system in Los Angeles.
Designed and made in Italy, this telescopic gate system is the premium option for high end, luxury residential applications.
Other custom telescopic options are available when the Comunello system cannot meet the limitations, such as lengths over 20' or if heavy-duty vehicles need to enter and exit.
