TYPES OF WALL TOPPERS WE INSTALL

Burkhardt Custom specializes in the following types of wall toppers:

  • Wood-frame Wall Topper
  • Steel-frame Wall Topper
  • Architectural Steel Wall Topper

Wood-Frame Wall Topper

As the name implies, these entry-level wall toppers utilize an all-wood construction design.

Posts can be fascia-mounted to the front of the wall using 2"x4" pressure treated wood and anchor or butterfly bolts, with the wood horizontally mounted to the face of the posts.

Another option is to use post bases anchored to the top of the wall with 4"x4" pressure treated posts.

2"x4" framing can be constructed to mount the pickets vertically.

Hardwood posts can also be used to elevate the style and longevity of the wall topper.

Wall topper construction is similar to a fence once the posts are in place, but height is usually limited to three to four foot maximum using an all-wood design plan.

Steel-frame Wall Topper

Steel-frame wall toppers are naturally stronger and longer-lasting than wood-frame wall toppers.

While the posts can have plates welded at the bottom and secured using anchor bolt into the top of walls, the prefered method of securing the posts is to core-drill a three to four inch hole in diameter about four to five inches deep to place the bottom of the post in and fill with a high-strength anchor bond cement.

This ensures a much more secure, longer-lasting hold that avoids any potential failures with the anchor bolt hardware over time.

Thus, much taller heights can be achieved safely.

Steel-frame wall topper construction opens up a wider world of material possibilites since the strength of the frame and security of the structure is much more reliable.

Dense, heavy hardwoods like ipe can be mounted without worry.

Or all-steel architectural designs like horizontal flat bar or rectangular tubing can be selected.

Steel-frame wall toppers can also incorporate the popular stainless steel cable railing systems.

Architectural Steel Wall Topper

As mentioned above, steel frame wall toppers with posts secured using high-strength anchor bond cement open up a world of possibiites not permisable with plated posts or wood frame.

Designer sheet metal like the ones offered by McNicols Company can be used to bring a contemporary vibe for modern architectural designs.
